NOTE: 2012 INFORMATION WILL BE POSTED SHORTLY. THE INFORMATION BELOW IS ABOUT OUR 2011 EVENT. Florida's Young Scholars Day @ Land Shark Stadium Saturday, July 23, 2011 & Sunday, July 24th, 2011
Once again, Florida's Young Scholars has teamed with the Florida Marlins to create an event that is the highlight of many student's summer. We're looking for another fun day in which Scholars will be on the field prior to the game and one lucky Scholar will be selected to throw out the ceremonial first pitch!
Due to the growing popularity of this event, in 2011 we will hold two events for Scholars to choose from (or you can attend both). This will allow you to select the game you feel best fits your schedule and needs. On Saturday, July 23rd, we'll hold our first night event with the Florida Marlins. The game begins at 7:05 PM against the New York Mets. The next day, Sunday, July 24th the Marlins will again face the Mets in a matinee game starting at 1PM.
Special Pre-Game Field Ceremony
Prior to each game, the Scholars will be honored with a Field Ceremony – the Scholars and their guests will come onto a Major League Baseball field. While they are doing so, they may see themselves on the big screen scoreboard. The public address announcer will also tell all about how they were named Florida's Young Scholars!
Special Events @ the Ballpark
In addition to the special pregame ceremony for Scholars and the baseball game against the Mets, the Marlins have announced a couple special promotions for both of our games.
On Saturday, the first 10,000 fans will also a special Marlins All-Star poster. There will be a special postgame concert featuring Fuego with Los Hermanos Rosario. Urban/tropical artist Miguel Duran, better known as FUEGO, recently released his long-awaited album, La Música del Futuro. The hit single "Que Buena Tu Ta" song is a fusion of "Urban Mambo" with a touch of Indian featuring Deevani. Dominican merengue group Los Hermanos Rosario originally consisted of brothers Toño, Pepe, Rafa and Luis Rosario. Since childhood, the brothers created music even with self-made instruments such as bottle caps, plastic containers, pots and pans. They formed in the Dominican Republic city of Higuey in May 1978. The 14-piece orchestra has had a series of very successful albums.
On Sunday after the game, the Diamond Dash takes place. Scholars can return to the field to run the bases!
First Pitch
One lucky Florida Young Scholar will be selected to head to the pitcher's mound before each game and throw the ceremonial first pitch!!! A few days before the game a random drawing will take place of all the Scholars who purchased tickets. (Please don't call our office – we will contact the lucky winner!)
This will be the seventh year we've had such a celebration and it is quite a popular event. We have received a few thank you notes from Scholars afterwards, such as this one:
"FYS Day was so fun! I loved it. The food was great and the marching around the field was AWESOME! The Marlins winning was the perfect ending! Thank you for letting me and my family be a part of such a fun experience."
